  • Network between to PC`s

    Hi all,

I hope someone can help me with a problem I have.

I`m a complete noob at networking :( the problem I`m having is I want to connect my Acer Laptop with a VIA compatable fast ethernet adapter to my Desktop PC with a SIS 900 PCI fast ethernet adapter.

The question is what do I need to actually get them up and running?

Thankyou in advance to anyone who can help.

Well, it's really simple. Two connect those two PC's directly, all you need is a crossover cable, plug one end into the laptop, other end into the PC, Windows XP detects and sets up the network, done. You can now share files (or whatever) between the PC's.

Thanks for the help. I take it you don`t need a hub with a crossover cable?

          Thanks again

you would only need a hub or switch if you have more than 2 PCs connected

Yeah, no hub is needed. If you wanted to use a hub (to connect more PC's) then you would need to use normal cables not crossover cables.
